Photography to me ....

A moment in time that you can never get back, but that will always be remembered. It's the tears shed by a father on his daughter's wedding day. It's the love for a newborn baby. It's seeing that newborn baby as an adult and graduating from high school. It's my family changing and growing from year to year, and for an instant I can stop my children from changing. That's what photography is to me.

Babies!

So it was about this time last year I decided that it would be a good idea to create a Babies First Year program. I had quite a few phone calls from clients who had bad experiences at the chain stores and they were looking for something different. I thought it would be fun to get to photograph these babies from birth through their first birthday. Well guess what. It has been fun.
I just finished my first program. Baby Arabella is now a toddler and I enjoyed getting to watch her grow. It was especially awesome getting to photograph this little girl, because her dad is serving in Iraq. I love knowing that he too was able to view the photos of his baby online. That is why I love posting, so people can share their memories with everyone. And how cool is it that even a soldier serving his country doesn't have to miss out on his daughter turning one.
I get to finish up another year with a little girl, Isabella, in a couple of weeks. She just turned one, and all her sessions have been so easy on me. I should exclude her first session, because she was not happy that day at all. We had to reschedule. So I don't count the first one, because she made up for it at the reschedule. I just love this little girl's smile. There's always a good five minutes of her staring at me serious as she can be, but once we start having fun she is super easy. So here are some images from some of my babies.

McKenzie and Jake

I feel in love with this bride. We were able to meet up at a coffee shop and enjoy an hour of chatting. McKenzie shared her and Jake's love story with me, and I couldn't wait to photograph her wedding. What I loved the most was they hadn't even known each other 6 months when they decided to get married. They just knew that they were meant for each other, or should I say her sister knew.
So they had a lovely February wedding at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Laurel, MT. Now, I hate to admit that indoor weddings stress me out, but they do. I am always talking brides and grooms into making some sort of stop at any location of their choice to get some outdoor shots, but with super cold temps and snow it just wasn't in the cards. I am always afraid I won't be able to be as creative as I want when stuck inside a church. But I spent about a half hour walking around the church getting a feel for the space and light. And it fortunately paid off, because the bride and groom are in love with their photos. Here are just a few of the favorites.

This is one of my favorite sequences I have ever done. This moment didn't last very long between her and her mom, but I sure got some great shots of them. It is just full of emotion and love. Makes me want to cry.

Starting Over....

I have another blog. I am not at good at blogging, and I always try things like ... Hey I am gonna blog everyday for a month. I usually make it a week. At the beginning of this year, I was going to blog at least once a week. I think I made it three.

I don't know why I don't make bloggin' a priority, I think it must be the bejeweled game my mom put on one of our computers for the kids. But I have given that up for Lent, so now I have a little more time on my hands.

I am also changing to blogger because I got on my google webmaster this morning and saw that link from blogger were showing up, but links from my blog weren't. So, yes I am changing to try and help my SEO. I am not good at SEO, but thanks to other blog's and friends who are I am getting there. I am not a business minded person, but I have to be sometimes. My husband has fortunately taken over my finances and so tax time next year is gonna be a breeze. I am still in charge of the marketing side of things, and I do what I can. I just want to take pictures. I love to photograph weddings. I love to photograph fun and creative Senior sessions. So to be able to keep my passion alive and burning, and help support my family, I have to market.

Word of mouth has been awesome here in Cody, WY. I spent over 5 years building my business in Billings, MT and still make my way up there often to do sessions. So here I was busier then ever, business was going great, and my husband got a job in Cody. Now I am starting over, but it hasn't been too bad. I have fallen in love with the people here, and fortunately they seem to be taking to me. So hopefully it won't take the average 5 years to get my name out here. Please feel free to check out my website Lasting Memories Photography and please leave comments. Hopefully I will make this a priority, and if anyone out there has a question about something I could blog about I would love to answer it.
Blessings All!
Now some random photos to get this blog going....
